online marketing trends
Online marketing has become a standard for reaching consumers and potential clients reaching out to millions of people everyday. Search engines have made the ability to find information simple and almost effortless. But is it enough just to be found online?
Users are demanding more and fresher content everyday, are you keeping them satisfied with your website updates? Is it easy for your users to get to your precious information or products? Are you engaging your visitors with site activities and information that makes your attractive and interesting?
91% of internet users use a search engine to find information and goods online. Is your website set up to reach those users? Do you offer syndicated content that is easily found and used? What if you can’t afford to compete with large competitors for search engine placement and rankings?
Thankfully you can up your online marketing game with a blog and some carefully crafted SEO. To get started, let’s break down what a blog is and then what SEO is and how it can benefit you.
what is a blog anyway?
According to Wikipedia a blog is defined as:
A weblog, which is usually shortened to blog, is a type of website where entries are made (such as in a journal or diary), displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual although many focus on photographs, videos or audio.
how to syndicate your blogs content
A lot of businesses are now using blogs as a light content management system for employees to post news and articles on the company website to inform users and syndicate their content on a routine basis.
The key word there is SYNDICATE.
This is one of the most important avenues an individual or business can take to market their products, information and ideas. This syndication is possible through the use of RSS feeds. Without getting over technical and immersing you in a pool of techno babble, RSS or Really Simple Syndication is a document which contains content items, like news headlines or summaries of stories or weblog posts with links to longer versions located on the referring blog or website.
RSS feeds allow visitors to your blog to subscribe to your feed with an aggregator (which is the scary technical name for a program that consumes or reads the feeds you subscribe to) or your users and or customers can add a Live Bookmark with their browser that will consume the feed in a similar manner.
Once subscribed to your RSS feed your users or customers will be informed every time you have new content in your blog as soon as the retrieve or consume the feed. That is marketing power, quick efficient information sent directly to your users with little or no effort required by them to receive it.
what is SEO?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a set of methods aimed at improving the ranking of a website in search engine listings. The term SEO also refers to “search engine optimizers,” an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients’ sites.
SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the techniques used to increase a website’s ranking in search engine listings or results pages also referred to SERPS.
SEO is a part of Search Engine Marketing or SEM which centers on marketing techniques with a common goal of increased ranking.
Other search engine marketing techniques included are search engine advertising or Pay Per Click; these ads are usually found next to search listings or as text ads on websites; and Paid inclusion programs whereas website owners pay to be included in a search engines natural search results.
Many search engine optimizers are also SEM’s and use SEO as a broad term interchangeably.
combine blogging and SEO to up your marketing game
Blogs are an excellent medium to provide search engines with fresh content on your website as we mentioned earlier. A search engine’s main concern is to provide relevant content to those performing searches. By providing relevant searches more people use their services and invest advertising dollars, billions of dollars.
You can leverage your Blog to provide this fresh and relevant content to search engines and at the same time inform visitors, promote your business, services or ideas, and discuss relevant issues surrounding your industry.
By writing useful content of interest to those performing online searches you will develop traffic to your website or Blog, and this is the SEO goal: Generate interest and exposure through keyword rich content to develop a steady stream of qualified traffic to your website.
If you can establish yourself as an industry leader, authority on your subject or in your industry, you will also experience a growth of online traffic. Simply said you are the go to guy for answers.
All this qualified traffic (those most likely to have interest in your subject matter, products or services), combined with an attractive web presence allows for the opportunity to convert visitors into customers, converts, increase brand awareness, generate new leads and conversions.
Best part of Blogging is that you are in control; Blogs are publishing platforms and easily updated by website owners. With guidance from an experienced SEO your Blog postings will pull traffic in through increased search rankings and link popularity form other websites that place links on their own websites linking to your content.
Think as Blogging and the technologies behind Blogging in this simple analogy:
Before you were a paperboy hand delivering your content through traditional media advertisement now with leveraging blogging and SEO you have become the editor or publisher, RSS is your paperboy and aggregators are your subscriber’s mailboxes, excluding junk mail of course.
